The Bible Helps Us Live For God

We have been talking a lot about how God encouraged Joshua to lead the people, how God encouraged His people to trust and follow Him as He led them through the Jordan River, and today we again see an encouragement through God’s Word.  Paul, a missionary and follower of Christ, encourages Timothy, a young leader of one of the churches, to look to the Bible because it helps us live for God.  Paul warned that hard times were coming where people would love themselves, money, and other things more than God; people would disobey their parents; people would turn away and not live for God.  FaithKids were challenged to think of the hard times we are living in where we see many of these things already happening.  Thankfully, our key passage from Psalm 119:105 reminds us, “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.”  If ever we go through a hard time or we are lost and do not know where to go, we can look to His Word, which will be the lamp for our feet…His light will direct us so that we will see the path and know where to move our feet toward.  We can be strong and courageous. We do not need to fear and we do not need to dismay because the LORD our God is with us.  We have been singing this song for the past three weeks!  How encouraging is God’s Word.

In reviewing the answer to our Big Picture Question: “What is the Bible?” we discover that “The Bible is God’s Word that tells us what is true about God and ourselves.”  What is true about God is that He is Holy, He is good, and He is loving.  What is true about ourselves is that we are all sinners who are deserving of death because we fall short of His glory, but because of Christ we are saved and we can have new life with Him–a life that does not keep us bound to sin any longer.  This doesn’t mean that we won’t keep sinning.  While we remain on this earth, we will still struggle, but God promises to make all believers more like Him as we grow in our relationship with Him, as we trust in Him, as He continues His good work in us.  And God gives us His Word to help us.  The Bible helps us live for God.
